Our Line Up for 2024
We are delighted to announce the return of the two-day Nanaimo Ukulele Festival on Friday May 24th & Saturday May 25th, 2024 to be held at Beban Park Social Centre, 2300 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC
To kick off the festival there will be a music filled concert on Friday evening with some great tunes from talented Canadian artists Transit Lounge, featuring Cynthia Kinnunen and Ben Coulson, from Guelph and local singer-songwriter and community choir leader, Sylvia Humble. To see their Bios, click here
On Saturday, choose from workshops that promise to inspire you. Mingle with fellow ukesters, make new friends and learn new skills from Cynthia Kinnunen , Ali Romanow and your two local JHUI qualified ukulele teachers, Carol Johns and Liz DeBarros. To see their Bios, click here During the lunch break you have the opportunity to meet up with Cynthia Kinnunen for: ‘Ukulele Confab: women, midlife and musicking
Cynthia invites you to join in an informal group discussion about the experience of music making with ‘ukulele in midlife. As part of preliminary research for her PhD in Community Music, Cynthia is interested in hearing from women in midlife, or those who’ve been through that midlife phase and enjoyed ‘ukulele music making during that time. The discussion is not being recorded and is only being sought as anecdotal information as her formal research study continues to develop. She’d love to hear about your experiences with musicking! The confab will take place at 11:30am, following the morning workshop, and may last 30-40 minutes. You are very welcome to bring your snacks and beverages as it is the start of the lunch break.
We wind up the day with the ever popular Four Minute Open Mic (pre-registration is required, email nanukefest@gmail.com )and Sing & Strum with Revolving Doors
There will be workshops offered to satisfy every level of player from Absolute Beginner (how do I hold this?) to Advanced
